The content cannot be displayed because you do not have authorisation to view this content.

The old Hypersonic had two large channels running toward the tail. This new FutureFly has two much smaller channels at the back, combined with ventilation holes through the deck. The F2 only had ventilation holes in the deck. I owned the Hypersonic, and I remember that with a lot of air under the board (around 35 knots), it felt like it was locked onto rails, very hard to steer in any direction.

I understand the idea behind the new design. Today’s fins are far more advanced than those from the F2 and Hypersonic era. Modern slalom fins barely spin out, even when the board lifts completely out of the water during a chop‑hop.

More air under the board could reduce drag. The FutureFly channels might also stiffen the board, acting like stringers and making the bottom shape more stable. With more air under the board, a larger fin is sometimes required. For example, the old monoconcave Fanatic boards trapped more air underneath and needed a bigger fin for the same board size.

However, the FutureFly channels might also act like additional rail length. That extra effective rail length could compensate for the need for a longer fin. The Hypersonic also had a kind of extra rail section in the middle, and it didn’t require oversized fins. If the same applies to the FutureFly, then the extra working rail length from the channels would also add some drag. So overall, there are quite a few pros and cons to this new concept.

The FutureFly promo videos look promising, but the new boards with channels don’t appear dramatically better on video. Still, it could definitely be an improvement. It’s great that they shared the development process and had the courage to try such a new design direction.

If there were a topic to suggest the most interesting windsurf product of 2026, followed by a voting round for everyone, I would nominate the FutureFly Darkhorse. Followed by Neilpryde Speedster Evo. This is exactly why I keep scrolling and searching the web, to discover and learn about bold new concepts and innovative ideas.

What production years/versions are you referring to?
