2025 Gran Canaria Gloria Windsurf PWA World Cup 5th-13th July

  • Das war der heutige Tag 4:

Youth’s take centre stage for the first time this week

For the first time at the 2025 Gran Canaria Gloria Windsurf World Cup, the next generation of sailors took to the water to battle it out during the afternoon. The morning had started slightly overcast and not particularly windy, but once the clouds burnt away the wind quickly returned to allow the U13 Boy’s and U15 Boy’s and Girl’s to hit the water for the first time this week with the wind dropping back to a more manageable level, while there were still a few waves around…

    Wave - Youth’s

    U15 Girl’s

Trine Gobisch (Duotone Windsurfing) won both of the opening finals in the Girl’s U15 fleet as she twice managed to defeat Japan’s Fumi Akita (Goya Windsurfing / Severne Sails) with a combination of forward loops and tabletops proving more than enough in the air, while Gobisch’s wave riding was also a cut above.

    Trine Gobisch

    U15 Boy’s

The semifinals of the Boy’s U15 division were also completed, but unfortunately the condition deteriorated before we were able to run the Single Elimination Final, so that will have to wait for another day to see the conclusion.

In the opening semifinal, Elías Antolín (Duotone Windsurfing) stole the show as he landed an excellent forward loop, while also showing variety in his riding to book the first qualifying spot into the final. Anton Gobisch (Duotone Windsurfing) secured the other spot in the final as he edged out Daniel Dunkerbeck (Starboard / Severne Sails).

In the second semifinal, Yannik Golb Gonzalez (Simmer / Simmer Sails) produced a confident display to navigate his way into the final, while Koa Fabbio-Blanch (Naish) clinched the other qualifying position thanks to his better jumping scores.

    GC25_wv_BU13_00593_copy.jpg

    Yannick Kolb Gonzalez

    U13 Boy’s

Dennis Kolb Gonzalez claimed a clearcut victory over his brother Eric Kolb Gonzalez and Robby Swift’s (JP / NeilPryde) son Rocco in the opening final, but the second final proved to be much closer with just two points separating Dennis and Eric. In the end though, it was still Dennis who prevailed as he takes a 2-0-0 lead in the U13 Boy’s division.

The forecast for Wednesday is very similar as today in terms of the wind, but the swell is expected to drop slightly to 0.8m from 1.1m. All fleets, but the Master’s who have been given another lay day, will meet again at 10:30am (GMT+1) for the skippers’ meeting with the action commencing from 11am onwards.

  • No show an Tag 5:

The wind continues, but the swell takes a break, leading to a lay day in Pozo at the halfway stage

After four days of action-packed competition, the waves took a break on Day 5 of the Gran Canaria Gloria Windsurf World Cup, which marks the halfway stage of the event, which led to a well-earned lay day for the sailors and the crew.

Over the opening four days we saw some insane action, but when the top sailors are pushing the boundaries of the sport, there are always going to be some just as epic wipeouts. And the good news is you can see a collection of those by clicking on the link below

With a bit of downtime today we’ve decided to bring you a recap of some of last year’s Slalom X racing in preparation for another installment, which will be coming to you from Fuerteventura between 18th-22nd July.

Also our legendary photographer, John Carter, has used today's downtime to trawl through the thousands of shots he's taken over the first four days to pick out a few more gems, so be sure to have a look at the updated gallery HERE.

The good news is that today just looks like a temporary blip with the wind and the waves expected to pick up again for the remainder of the event, which should hopefully provide an exciting finale to this year’s edition. The sailors will meet again at 09:30am (GMT+1) on Thursday morning for the skippers' meeting with a first possible start at 10am.

  • Das war Tag 6:

Sol Degrieck claims clearcut victory in Girl’s U18s, while Peter Gobisch and Yannik Kolb Gonzalez currently lead U18 & U15 Boy’s respectively

After another relatively slow start to the day, Day 6 of the 2025 Gran Canaria Gloria Windsurf World Cup soon burst into life around 11am as the next generation hit the water once again. Faced with gusty winds and variable waves the Youth’s still made the most of the conditions on offer to put on an entertaining display, while during the late afternoon the Master’s fleet also took to the water for the first time this week as their quarterfinals were completed.

    GC25_wv_MISC_00864_copy.jpg

    Youth’s

    Girl’s U18

Sol Degrieck (Severne / Severne Sails) claimed a comprehensive victory in the Girl’s U18 division as the young Belgian maestro won all three finals completed today. Degrieck impressed in the main draw - where she currently sits in third place - and her skills were clearly evident again today as she impressed both in the air and on the wave. The results between the rest of the girls - Emma Miron (F2), Frida Miron (F2), Lizzlotte Schilling Andrew (F2 / F2 Sails) and Natsuki Wakasa were a real mixed bag, but in the end, Schilling Andrew did just enough to secure second place on countback ahead of Miron E, who just missed out, but still completes the podium. Meanwhile, a tiebreak was also needed to split Miron F and Wakasa with Miron F eventually claiming fourth.

    Boy’s U18

The U18 Boy’s final was a tight affair in the opening half of the heat, but as the final progressed Peter Gobisch (Duotone Windsurfing) slowly started to control the heat after dropping a 4.62 point wave ride before adding a solid forward loop to his scoresheet just before the buzzer to claim the top spot on the podium ahead of Bjørn Olesen (Severne / Severne Sails), Javi Escribano (Goya Windsurfing) and Antonio Silvestri.

    Boy’s U15

The U15 Boy’s final saw a bright start start from Koa Fabbio (Naish / Naish Sails) as he quickly landed a forward loop and linked together the highest scoring wave of the heat. However, it wasn’t quite enough as Yannik Kolb Gonzalez came storming back with a perfect backloop to secure the top spot on the podium in the Single Elimination. Meanwhile, last year’s U13 champion, Elias Antolín (Duotone Windsurfing) currently sits in third followed by 12-year-old Anton Gobisch (Duotone Windsurfing), who demonstrated some stylish riding and spun through several forward loops.

    Master’s

In the late afternoon the Master’s quarterfinals were completed and now the semifinals are set. The opening semifinal will see; Michael Viscovich (JP / NeilPryde) up against Valter Scotto (WeOne / Severne Sails), Vincent Beauvarlet (Goya Windsurfing) and John McLawrence (Severne Sails), while the second semifinal consists of; Matias Lanese (Tabou / Point-7), Alessandro Mazzetti (Quatro / Severne Sails), Lars Gobisch (Duotone Windsurfing) and reigning world champion, Mike Friedl (Quatro / Goya Windsurfing).

With a more promising forecast for Friday, the skippers’ meeting has been moved forward to 9am (GMT+1) tomorrow morning with a first possible start at 10am.

  • Das war Tag 7:

Pumping Pozo delivers great conditions as Alexia Kiefer Quintana dominates U21 Girl’s, while Gregory Stathopoulos leads U21 Boy’s after producing powerful display

After a couple of lighter wind days, by Pozo standards, the wind machine fully cranked back into gear on Day 7 of the 2025 Gran Canaria Gloria Windsurf World Cup to provide a scintillating day action with there being some great waves on offer too - both for riding and for jumping.

    Youth’s

    Girl’s U21

Alexia Kiefer Quintana (Duotone Windsurfing) claimed a clean sweep of victories in the U18 Girl’s fleet as the 20-year-old secured a dominant victory by landing a collection of big, clean backloops and displaying some dynamic wave riding.

The three finals produced the exact same results each time round meaning Maria Morales (Goya Windsurfing) takes home second place followed by Lisa Wermeister (Duotone Windsurfing / Maui Ultra Fins) and Helena Lale (Severne / Severne Sails).

    Boy’s U21

Gregory Stathopoulous (Goya Windsurfing) produced a superb display of sailing in the Boy’s U21 Final to earn a hugely deserved victory ahead of local boy Carlos Kiefer Quintana (Duotone Windsurfing). The latter led for much of the opening half of the heat, but then Stathopoulos took things up a notch or two as he rotated through a perfect double forward to earn 8.12 points and then quickly landed a clean backloop to move into the lead. The 19-year-old Greek didn’t rest on his laurels as he then linked together the best wave of the heat as he combined a frontside 360 and backside 360 to secure the top spot on the podium.

Kiefer Quintana sailed well landing a forward off the lip, but couldn’t quite deny Stathopoulos on this occasion and the 18-year-old will now have to wait for the Double Elimination.

The podium is currently completed by Anton Richter (JP / NeilPryde / Maui Ultra Fins) with Samuele Ferraro (PATRIK / PATRIK Sails) in fourth - for the time being at least.

During the early evening Samuele Ferraro (PATRIK / PATRIK Sails) successfully defended his fourth place from the Single Elimination as the young Italian ended Takumi Moriya’s (Severne / Severne Sails) comeback through the Double Elimination after the Japanese freestyler had won his first couple of heats. Ferraro will face next Anton Richter (JP / NeilPryde / Maui Ultra Fins) in the battle for the podium with the winner going on to face Kiefer Quintana.

    Boy’s U18

The Boy’s U18 Double Elimination also began in the late afternoon and it is Fernando Sottile (WeOne) who has mounted the best comeback after successfully defeating fellow compatriot Antonio Silvestri in the battle for fourth and fifth and he will now face Javi Escribano (Goya Windsurfing / MFC) next in the fight for third and fourth respectively.

    Master’s

The Master’s fleet were first out of the blocks this morning and they produced an entertaining display as the revelled in today’s better conditions. In the end, Lars Gobisch (Duotone Windsurfing) managed to come from behind to claim the top spot in the Single Elimination as the German managed to cause an upset by edging out reigning world champion - Mike Friedl (Quatro / Goya Windsurfing) - who had to settle for second. Meanwhile, Michael Viscovich (JP / NeilPryde) currently completes the podium with Valter Scotti (WeOne / Severne Sails) in fourth place, but there’s still potentially the Double Elimination to come.

The forecast for Saturday looks very promising again with the strong winds expected to continue, while the waves are predicted to pick up to 1.5 metres, which should hopefully provide a pulsating finale to the Women’s and Youth’s Double Eliminations. The sailors will meet at 09:30am (GMT+1) on Saturday morning for the skippers’ meeting with the action commencing from 10am onwards.

  • Das war Tag 8:

Super Finals Saturday sees Daida Moreno produce buzzer beater to claim unprecedented 23rd event title in Pozo Izquierdo

The penultimate day of the 2025 Gran Canaria Gloria Windsurf World Cup saw final results gained in three categories; Women’s, U21 Boy’s and U18 Boy’s and all three divisions required Super Finals to determine the eventual winners of the event, such was the closeness of the duels. The Youth’s were up first and they were greeted with classic nuclear strength Pozo winds, and with the tide on the push, skatepark like conditions to perform their best stunts, while the women had to use every ounce of their talent to make the most of the deteriorating wave quality, which they duly did to still provide a great show.

Emotions ran high on the penultimate day

Daida Moreno (Bruch Boards / Bruch Sails / Maui Ultra Fins) completed a dream return to the competition scene, after coming out of retirement for this event, to claim an unprecedented 23rd event title in Pozo, but she didn’t exactly have it all her own way as she was forced into a Super Final by Sarah-Quita Offringa (Starboard / NeilPryde / Maui Ultra Fins). The Super Final also proved far from simple with Moreno having to produce a massive performance in the second half of the heat to deny Offringa, which she duly did after an equipment change more than paid off. In the dying seconds Moreno linked a backside air and a frontside air (landed wet) to earn 3.75 points, which proved enough to pip Offringa to the event title by just 0.31 of a point, having earlier stomped a backloop and a massive stalled forward.

Daida Moreno earns 23rd Pozo event title

For Offringa, this will be a bitter pill to swallow having been so close to finally defeating Moreno on her home waters - where she remains the undisputed Queen of Pozo. Offringa posted the highest scoring heat of the day in the final against Moreno - 23 points - and led until the bitter end in the Super Final, only to be denied by a buzzer beater. Second place here still represents the 25-time world champion’s best result of the season and gives her a solid foundation on which to build upon for the rest of the season as she goes in search of a fifth consecutive wave world crown.

Alexia Kiefer Quintana (Duotone Windsurfing) managed to gain one position in the Double Elimination to secure the final spot on the prestigious overall podium to keep her podium streak going, which stretches back to Chile last year and spans six events as the 20-year-old continues to go from strength-to-strength. Kiefer Quintana first brought Maria Morales’ (Goya Windsurfing) comeback to an end before getting the better of Sol Degrieck (Severne / Severne Sails) in the battle for the podium with a combination of big backloops and dynamic wave riding.

    Youth’s

    U21 Boy’s

Carlos Kiefer Quintana (Duotone Windsurfing) revelled in his home spots nuking winds to stage a brilliant comeback and deny Gregory Stathopoulos (Goya Windsurfing) the victory in Gran Canaria. Kiefer Quintana launched into perfect double forwards, one-handed backloops and stalled forwards to come out on top at his home event. Meanwhile, Stathopoulos has to settle for second place with Anton Richter (JP / NeilPryde / Maui Ultra Fins) completing the top three.

    U18 Boy’s

Javi Escribano (Goya Windsurfing / MFC) completed a superb comeback in the Boy’s U18 division to claim a hugely deserved victory. On the opening day, Escribano struggled to land his backloops and pushloops, which resulted in him finishing third in the Single Elimination. However, in today’s nuclear winds, it was a different story with the 16-year-old boasting an almost 100% completion record on his jumps as he showed incredible consistency to power his way to the top of the podium, while also displaying an aggressive approach to his wave riding to earn his best result to date on the Youth World Tour.

Peter Gobisch (Duotone Windsurfing) produced a much better performance in the Super Final after suffering a snapped downhaul in the final, but couldn’t quite find enough to defend his Single Elimination crown as he missed out by just 2.1 points. The podium is completed by Bjørn Olesen (Severne / Severne Sails), who slips one place to third.

With all of the other categories now complete, tomorrow will see the conclusion of the Master’s, which promises to be another windy affair, while the waves should be more than good enough with the tide on the push in the morning. They will meet again for a last time on Sunday morning at 10am (GMT+1) for the skippers’ meeting with a first possible start at 10:30am.

Daida Moreno & Marino Gil win chaotic Super Session to conclude the 37th edition of the Gran Canaria Gloria Windsurf World Cup

The final day of the 2025 Gran Canaria Gloria Windsurf World Cup finished with a flourish with more competition for the Youth’s and Master’s, while a chaotic Super Session was held in the after to bring the curtain down on the 37th edition of the event.

    Super Session

At 2:30pm a half an hour Super Session was held and it turned into pure chaos with all the sailors on the water at the same time. In the end it turned into a double forward fest with Marino Gil (JP / NeilPryde / MFC) and Daida Moreno (Bruch Boards / Bruch Sails / Maui Ultra Fins) winning the Men’s and Women’s for double forwards. Meanwhile, Philip Köster (Severne / Severne Sails) came second for a double forward on the way in, while Ricardo Campello (MFC) completes the Men’s podium also for a double forward. In the Women’s, Sol Degrieck (Severne / Severne Sails) finished second for a double forward attempt, while Justyna Sniady (Flikka / North Sails / Maui Ultra Fins) completes the top three for a tabletop forwards.

Earlier in the day, reigning world champion Mike Friedl (Goya Windsurfing) successfully ended Toni Pijoan’s (Severne / Severne Sails) come back through the double to defend his second place, but with Lars Gobisch (Duotone Windsurfing) unfortunately having to leave early, Friedl takes the event win here in Gran Canaria.

Yannik Kolb Gonzalez sailed well to defend his Single Elimination victory as he saw off a valiant effort from Koa Fabbio (Naish / Naish Sails), who finishes this year’s event in second place, while Elías Antolín (Duotone Windsurfing) completes the podium.

  • Hi Totti, danke. Ich glaube steht in Deinem Text:

"...but with Lars Gobisch (Duotone Windsurfing) unfortunately having to leave early..."

    Danke trotzdem!

Daida Moreno makes dream return to claim 23rd Pozo title, while Philip Köster captures event title No.8 at one of the windiest Pozo’s ever

Pozo Izquierdo is known as the ‘Home of the Wind’ and it sure lived up to its reputation over the last nine days. The opening couple of days saw possibly the windiest ever competition in Gran Canaria with several sailors alluding to the fact that it felt as windy as some of the Red Bull Storm Chase missions, while the closing weekend also saw more nuclear winds to cap another fantastic edition of the Gran Canaria Gloria Windsurf World Cup, which saw results gained in all of the 10 divisions, to cap an extremely busy, but also extremely successful event as windsurfing got to show itself as the beautifully dynamic sport it is.

    Women’s

Daida Moreno (Bruch Boards / Bruch Sails / Maui Ultra Fins) made a surprise return to the lineup this year having announced her retirement from competition in 2023. However, the result had a sense of regularity about it as the 47-year-old dug deep in the dying seconds of the Super Final to deny Sarah-Quita Offringa (Starboard / NeilPryde / Maui Ultra Fins) the victory as Daida continues her love affair with Pozo Izquierdo having just claimed a 23rd event title. Moreno has been known for her aerial prowess throughout her long and illustrious career, so it perhaps comes as no surprise that she achieved the highest scoring jump of the event - 7.10 points - for a massive stalled forward.

    Daida Moreno

Having come about as close to winning as you can without actually winning, it will still be a bitter pill for Offringa to swallow having come so agonisingly close to achieving her longterm goal of defeating Moreno on her home waters. The reigning world champion will still take heart from the fact that she produced a great performance in the final against Moreno to force a Super Final, while in the grand scheme of things second place here still represents a solid result in her quest to win a fifth consecutive wave world title.

    Sarah-Quita Offringa

Alexia Kiefer Quintana (Duotone Windsurfing) managed to keep her podium streak going after climbing one place in the Double Elimination after defeating Sol Degrieck (Severne / Severne Sails). The 20-year-old has now podiumed at her last six events in a run stretching back to Chile in 2024.

    Alexia Kiefer Quintana

Meanwhile, Degrieck just misses out on the podium, but still earns her best result to date in Pozo - 4th - while she also finishes the event with the highest scoring heat of the contest - 24 points - in the Single Elimination when she landed pushloops, frontside airs and a taka, while even trying a double forward to show that even at 15-years-old she’s now a major threat for the very top positions.

Maria Morales (Goya Windsurfing) did brilliantly to recover from a disappointing result in the single to climb back into fifth place from ninth as the young Spaniard advanced through five consecutive heats. Justyna Sniady (Flikka / North Sails / Maui Ultra Fins) walks away from Pozo in sixth after suffering the narrowest of losses to Morales with just 0.04 of a point separating the two sailors in Heat 45.

Philip Köster (Severne / Severne Sails) walks away from the 2025 Gran Canaria Gloria Windsurf World Cup with his eighth event Pozo title, which is also his first 5-star victory on the World Tour since Sylt in 2022. The five-time world champion produced his usual polished display of sailing consisting of stalled double forwards, pushloop forwards and even a no-handed goiter as he saw off stiff competition from Marcilio Browne (Goya Windsurfing / MFC) in the Super Final. Köster also posted the highest scoring heat of the contest - 31.73 points. Victory in Gran Canaria sees Köster rise to second in the overall world rankings.

Marcilio Browne pushed Köster all the way, but couldn’t quite keep his incredible winning streak going, which had seen the Brazilian win his first three events of the season. Browne produced another world class display here to secure a solid second place, which keeps him in the world title race lead as we head to Tenerife for the next event. Browne also earned three perfect 10 scores throughout the event for radical stalled double forwards and pushloop forwards.

Last year’s event champion, Marino Gil (JP / NeilPryde / MFC) completes the prestigious overall podium, which is the third consecutive year that he’s finished in the top three at his home event. Gil’s best finish of the season thus far sees him rise to fourth in the overall world rankings.

Marc Paré (Simmer / Simmer Sails / MFC) was slightly disappointed with his fourth place finish immediately afterwards, but with a bit of time to reflect he should still be able to look back at this result as a solid one - especially given the incredible level of all of the top four sailors - who were on a different level to everyone else. Paré is conscious of losing more ground to Browne in the world title race, but will now shift his attention to Tenerife where he is the defending event champion.

Elsewhere, Liam Dunkerbeck (Duotone Windsurfing) managed to advance through five heats on the spin to move into the top five for the event by claiming an impressive victory over Ricardo Campello (MFC) in Heat 45, but he didn’t have quite enough fire power to negotiate his way passed Paré on this occasion.

Campello, meanwhile, fought his way back from the very first round of the double and he started to gather some serious momentum as he continually bettered his previous heat scores and threatened to try and fight his way all the way to the top after a disappointing result in the Single Elimination. The 40-year-old beat Dunkerbeck in Heat 44, which was a four man heat, but then lost out in the man-on-man in the very next heat to finish in 6th.

The top eleven is completed by Victor Fernandez - 7th - Alessio Stillrich (Bruch Boards / Bruch Sails) - 8th - Moritz Mauch (Simmer / Simmer Sails), who earned the highest single wave score for the contest, 8.13 points - joint 9th alongside Miguel Chapuis (Flikka / North Sails), and Antoine Martin (Quatro / Goya Windsurfing / MFC) and Mike Friedl (Goya Windsurfing), who share equal 11th, which is Friedl’s best result to date on the World Tour.

    Youth’s and Master’s

As well as the pro fleets, there were eight other fleets in action ranging from the next generation (U13s-U21s) right up to the Master’s division and all the fleets produced more entertaining action, but ultimately their could only be one winner in each division; siblings Alexia Kiefer Quintana (Duotone Windsurfing) and Carlos Kiefer Quintana (Duotone Windsurfing) won the U21 Girl’s and Boy’s respectively, Sol Degrieck and Javi Escribano (Goya Windsurfing / MFC) won the U18 Girl’s and Boy’s, Trine Gobisch (Duotone Windsurfing) and Yannik Kolb Gonzalez (F2 / Simmer Sails) claimed the top spots in the U15 Girl’s and Boy’s, while Yannik’s brother, Dennis Kolb Gonzalez, managed to win the U13 Boy’s. Meanwhile, reigning world champion, Mike Friedl (Quatro / Goya Windsurfing) claimed the victory in the Master’s division.

That concludes the 37th edition of the Gran Canaria Gloria Windsurf World Cup, we hope you enjoyed the action as much as we as we did and the PWA would like to once again extend their thanks to Bjørn Dunkerbeck (Starboard / Severne Sails) and his team for all of their efforts in making the event happen and we look forward to hopefully returning next year.

Where’s Next on the PWA World Tour?

In just a few days time the 37th edition of the Fuerteventura PWA Grand Slam will begin with this year’s event running between 18th-27th July. Over the next 10 days in Fuerteventura there will be plenty to feast your eyes on starting with the first Slalom X event of the year over the opening five days, before the Freestyle fleets hit the water for the first time this year.
