Richtige Lattenspannung

  • Verändert ihr die Lattenspannung? 79

Also Camber raus ,Spacer (Distanzstücke) rein . Aber nicht zu stramm, da Rotation
schwerer funktioniert. Wenn möglich, richtige Camber
anpassen.
Wolfgang

  • Was sind das denn für Segel?

  • moin!

  • working on the battens and the tension of the battens, can be enough to get a bad sail to go good..
Check out the sails of Steve Allen
Dont think you will find many standard battens in his sails..
Ok, we are not steve.. But point is that the right amount of batten tension is important.. on our 7 & 8 batten sails we want the 4 batten to bend a little into the wind, this makes the mast more reactive.. but batten 3 we leave just so there is no wrinkles in the sail. Batten 1 and 2 also with good tension

thats right. there`s a pic (sorry I don`t have a better one) from a Vapor 10.0 2008. This sail is from Steve Allen and you can see the batten tensioner from NP at the top batten. Theres a NP batten inside.

Steve is testing each small detail and on every sail there are some changings. He compares the bending curves between the Gaastra and NP battens and changes if necessary.

    All Vapors from 2008 (10,0 / 11,0 / 12,0) have these modifications. Most at batten 2,3 and 4.

    All the best

    Christian

  • the most professionals modifie their sails. Sometimes the open the complete mastbag and sew it with a better curve according to the mastcurve. Have a detailled look at the sails and you will find many changes (Steve, Micah, Antoine.....)

    greetings

  • you can work on the battens, but you cant start to re-cut the sail

    Why not... to much work?

its easy to re-cut parts of the sails and release or put a take up into leeches or at front panels.
But only if you do your prototypes by your own...

    Or Im wrong?

    Not wrong...
But not talking about proto sails
As there is no clasification/registration of formula sails, then you can do this.. But on slalom sails its a different story.. If you want to use them in the PWA, as you well know we all have to send in the tech sheets of the slalom sails. These sails as well as boards gets checked under competetion from time to time.. Then its not good, if you have been re-working on the sail panels

thats why a lot of Pro riders got new sail quivers for nearly every PWA event...?
Different battens (full carb) than in serial sails, material specs different (less weight) and so on.

Some riders told me, that the sails were never been controlled in the past, why ?
There are sails in PWA comps, looking different than the serial versions but nobody took care about this.

So for what the inscription, the PWA should be the open class, this will bring back evolution over the year and a little advantage for R&D Teams of small brands, instead of blocking the sail designs from end of November untill the first race in beginning of May...

    my five cents

  • Why riders get new sails for each event, I dont know.. Maybe the sails are not build strong enough to last ?
Carbon tubes are not always wanted in sails as they can be too stiff and thus glass can be better to use. Only on big sails, do I think there is a advantage by having these stiff battens / formula or big slalom 9-10m

If sails are being checked or not, I cant say.. I know 2 years ago here on Garda, at the IFCA championships, they were meassuring gaastra and P7 sails..
I think its OK, having the sails locked for the season.. Otherwise you could end up having completely new sails for every event. Because we could make a perfect flat water sail and then another one for chop.. maybe we should also start making flat water masts and chop masts.. working on the reflex..
No, its good with some limitations
