2020 PWA Calendar

We are finally able to publish the PWA Calendar for 2020. Securing Freestyle events at the top level still presents its challenges and we continue to work on possibilities for all events through the year.

On the wave tour, the usual suspects will continue for 2020 and we expect to continue to build on the success of the very successful collaboration on Maui with our friends from the IWT, to ensure that the Aloha Classic continues to be a part of the world ranking.

The Slalom tour remains very strong and going into the 2020 season, the discipline is undergoing its greatest evolution in over a decade. Racing will now take place in winds down to 5 knots, with competitors being able to choose whether they race on a fin or a foil, creating a tactical opportunity as winds increase, similar to that of a tyre choice in formula 1 motor racing. The new format will almost guarantee racing on a daily basis at events and will ensure high speed action whether its 5.0 weather in Fuerte or a gentle sea breeze in Costa Brava.

You will all notice the star ratings next to the events which is a new addition to the PWA structure. Under the new system, events will be awarded stars based on the level of the event in terms of prize money and associated standards.

New, lower level options have been created to offer an opportunity for new or smaller events to become part of the World Tour. These events, awarded the status of “World Tour” 1 – 3 Star will carry ranking points that count towards the PWA World Championship ranking according to their level. The points at each level will be calculated on a percentage basis according to the prize money level compared to full World Cup Prize money. However, riders will only count results according to the number of events at 4 star World Cup level and above. For example, if there 4 events at 4 Star World Cup or above, then a rider will count their best 4 results of the season – regardless of what level they are – before any discard rules have been applied.

1 – 3 Star events will include one discipline at different levels below World Cup Prize Money

4 Star events will include one full World Cup discipline for either men or women

5 Star events will include one full World Cup discipline for both men and women

6 Star events will include a minimum of 2 disciplines OR above minimum prize money

7 Star events will include more than 2 disciplines

All events of 4 to 7 Star, World Cup, Grand Slam and Super Grand Slam rating and above will carry the same ranking points for each discipline regardless of their star rating.7b6efbc89d17958370ffed89b6021e5a.jpeg

Why not. Es geht ja auch um die Show. :)

  • Dear Sailors and Members of the Windsurfing Industry

With the 2019 Tour now over, we wanted to write to you one more time regarding the racing disciplines for 2020, in order to clarify any outstanding points that you may be unsure of. This is for information only and not a request for feedback.

    Disciplines

There will be 2 racing disciplines for 2020, Slalom and Course Racing

    Slalom

Will be an integrated discipline that will include both foil and fin.

It will be run on an elimination basis and on downwind courses, the same as existing slalom.

Wind minimum will be 5 knots and it will be at the individual sailor’s discretion whether to take a foil or fin. The only exception to this will be in conditions that are deemed extreme enough to significantly impact safety, where the Race Committee may decide to limit races to fin only.

Certain events may still be deemed fin only to keep travel costs down if conditions denote that either conditions are reliable enough, or where conditions do not allow foiling, such as at shallow water venues.

Due to the potential presence of foils on the course in all races, competitors will be required to wear impact vests and helmets at all times, except at events which have been specified as fin only.

Women’s slalom events will still contain separate fin and foil races but these will be run on slalom courses with a 7 knot minimum for fin races and a 5 knot minimum for foil races, the only differences will be that the Race Director will specify whether races will be on foil or fin, and the entry lists, results, rankings and prize funds will be separate.

    Course Racing

Will be a pure foil discipline based around upwind racing on a variety of courses. Minimum conditions will be based on suitable conditions, with the guideline being that if 50% of the leading 50% of the fleet drop off the foil, the race should be abandoned. Races will mainly be run on a full feet basis, although smaller heats may be used if in the interests of competition.

    Equipment

All racing will be run on registered production equipment, from the PWA registered production equipment lists, according to the following rules and limits

    Slalom Equipment

Competitors may register 4 boards for the slalom discipline in 2020. 3 of these boards must be no wider than 85cm and may be used with either foil or fin. 1 of these boards may be up to 91cm wide and may be used with foil only.

Competitors may register up to 7 sails for the slalom discipline in 2020. This can be any mixture of sails from the PWA registered sails list and may be used with foil or fin at any time and on any of the competitors registered boards. Sails may be no bigger than 10m2.

Competitors may register a foil set consisting of 1 mast, 2 fuselage, 2 front wings and 2 rear wings. Foil size limitations remain unchanged from 2019. Any components registered must be from the same manufacturer and designed and registered to work together. Competitors may not register mix and match foil sets comprising of components from different manufacturers. This may be a separate foil set to one used in course racing.

    Course Racing Equipment

Competitors may register 1 board for the course racing discipline in 2020. Boards may be a maximum width of 100.5cm.

Competitors may register 3 sails for the course racing discipline in 2020. Sails shall be a maximum of 10m2. These sails may be any 3 sails from the PWA registered sails list.

This may be a separate foil set to one used in slalom

    Foils – both disciplines

Foil masts must not exceed 115cm including the depth of fuselage when mounted, measured from the base of the board to bottom edge of the fuselage. The total length of the foil from the leading edge of the front wing to the trailing edge of rear wing must not exceed 120cm. The wings must not exceed a maximum width of 100cm.

    Registration deadlines

Slalom boards to be used with fins (max 85cm wide) must be registered by manufacturers according to the normal PWA registration procedure by 15th December (unchanged from previous years)

Slalom boards to be used with foils must be registered by 1st March 2020.

Sails for both disciplines must be registered by 20th January 2020.

Foils must be registered by 31st January.

We look forward to some exciting racing next year!

    Kind regards

    The PWA

  • nach dem obigen PWA Dokument sollte es CR und SL getrennt geben - aber als lokale Entscheidung vor Ort je nach Wind?

    Viele liebe Grüße, Boris

  • Möglicherweise ist die Lösung:

    COURSE RACING

    {5.1} Course Racing Events

Foil racing may be run at specific events at the discretion of the PWA. Racing shall be run under the standard rules for racing as contained in the PWA Rulebook, and changes to the Rulebook or conditions specified in the Notice of Race for the event or the sailing instructions. Due to the developmental nature of the discipline the rules for foiling may be altered at any time by the PWA, in the interests of the fairness or competition, the development of the discipline, or the best interests of windsurfing and the PWA.

  • nein, gottseidank nicht. ich bewundere/beneide die PWA-Sportler nicht um Ihr Leben, Streß, ökonomische Zwänge und so weiter.
