As previously mentioned in the recent update we sent out, we have been evaluating ways to tighten up on the control of registered slalom equipment used on tour.
Although measurement of boards has been carried out in the past, the effectiveness of this measurement has been limited by a lack of agreed tolerances and the fact that very few boards seem to stay true to spec once used. At times, when the committee have measured boards at events, they have not been able to find a single board that is true to spec, and without agreed tolerances on measurements, any action would have meant disqualifying most of the fleet.
This has made the whole process of measuring boards and checking equipment impotent and somewhat pointless.
However, we have now been supplied with accepted tolerances from Cobra (attached for reference) which will give some degree of limitation and help to shape a refined set of tolerances that we can give to the committee to apply when scrutinising equipment.
As we know that boards can become altered through normal use, we still need to review these tolerances carefully and decide which (if any) can be applied so we would like your feedback on which measurements you feel can be checked for the purpose of confirming the boards are correct, and what tolerances should be applied to those measurements.
Based on your feedback and the wealth of experience among the industry’s board shapers, we hope to be able to create more defined rules, that will allow us to apply a greater level of scrutiny and control of equipment in the future.
We look forward to hearing from you soon.
Kind regards
The PWA
