    S1 Hi-Wind G10 - Testimonials From The Team

Key points from our trusted sources and comparisons with the rest of the range.

We hope you find these notes from the team comparing the S1 G10 with the V-Max 2.0, 3.0, 4.0 and S1 Elliptical useful in selecting the right fin for your needs:

    SELECT RIDER PETER DE WIT ON S1 HIGHWIND G10 - COMPARED TO V.MAX V2.0 & V.MAX V3.0
(Various sizes on range of Avanti/Fanatic equipment)

    • In short you can compare this fin with the V.MAX 2.0 and 3.0s.
    • The S1 Hi-Wind G10 wind feels a bit more powerful and the fin has less resistance through the water.
    • The fin is easy to rail the board with compared with the V.MAX 3.0.
    • As long as the fin is not ‘over railed’, the fin is very grippy and even lifts the board vertically, so the hull will fly free.
    • Also, the S1 HI-WIND G10 feels nice and neutral during direction changes. Whereas, the V.MAXes want to straight-line as much as possible
    • The S1 HI-WIND G10 can swiftly change direction any moment and with any amount of power on the fin.
    • When overloading the S1 HI-WIND G10 (and Hotrod) the fin will slip away, but compared to the V.MAX and other Selects, the slip is very easy to correct - it almost feels like a wave fin you can induce a slip sideways yourself to change direction quickly by just applying extra force on the fin. By simply decreasing the power the fin tracks like a train again.
    • Also, on nice chop, the fin carries the board over the peaks with more ease than the V.MAX V3.0 3 - it feels like you’re riding a fin that’s about 1 cm. longer.

TEST NOTES FROM SELECT RIDER SYLVAIN HERNIGOU
    (AHD SL2 112 + Loftsails SwitchBlade 6.3 + Si Hi-Wind G10 35)

    • Early planing despite choppy water and side current. Good speed and very good control
    • Going upwind is easy, even in these harsh sailing conditions
    • I am quite surprised by the top speed and the pointing ability of this model
    • Tried to load the board to test the spin-out limit - but it never happened!
    • I think the S1 Slam would feel similar but without the same speed at all
    • Clearly a fin for high wind sailing

    TEST NOTES JEAN-CHARLES MAES
    (S1 Hi-Wind G10 35)

    • S1 range offers performance and versatility
    • A real plug and play fin.
    • Planes as early as the S1 Slam- you instantly feel a sensation of balance, direction and control, which is reassuring and allows a greater focus on sailing
    • Easy, gives the board a very balanced lift and lateral stability
    • The S1 Hi-Wind G10 has a strong acceleration
    • Keeps control. Even if the wind goes up all of a sudden, the board remains high on water and stable
    • Going upwind, the S1 Hi-Wind needs quite a strong wind to keep up with extreme upwind angle and this is where you feel that this fin is designed for strong wind conditions

PERSPECTIVE COMPARED TO S1 ELLIPTICAL AND S1 SLAM:
(From Jean-Charles Maes and Sylvain Hernigou)

    • If we compare it to the S1 Elliptical, the S1 Hi-Wind G10 gives a feeling of adaptability and ease-of-use, whereas the S1 Elliptical is only efficient in really strong wind.
    • The S1 Hi-Wind G10 gives more performance for the low and medium wind ranges
    • It’s hard to compare it to the S1 Slam, but, in the end - going downwind - both fins perform at the same level and, despite being a ‘high-wind’ fin, the S1 Hi-Wind G10 gives a little advantage in terms of control for lightweight riders thanks to the softness of its tip
